Blennerhassett Island Historical State Park
History

Blennerhassett Island Historical State Park preserves a small Ohio River island at Parkersburg that was once the estate of Harman Blennerhassett and Margaret Agnew. Its centerpiece is a reconstructed Blennerhassett mansion, built in the 1980s on the foundations of the original Palladian house that burned in 1811 and was tied to the political scandal involving Aaron Burr and Harman Blennerhassett. The park combines this early republic history with recreation, including carriage rides, the restored 1802 Putnam-Houser House, hiking, and bicycle rentals. With the Blennerhassett Museum of Regional History in downtown Parkersburg, it also presents broader regional history and prehistoric Native American artifacts.
