Milford Presbyterian Church was organized in June 1855 with 16 members as one of four Presbyterian churches within a radius of 500 miles. Early pastors who traveled on horseback organized and served three churches in outlying areas. The congregation built houses of worship in 1860, 1896, and 1921. The church hosted the Presbytery four times from 1861 to 1871 and the Synod in 1920. Records show that Milford was self-sustaining, faithful in supporting Presbyterian colleges of Texas, and high in benevolences. Its church bell, cast in New York and brought here by ship, rail, and ox-wagon, has called the area to worship since 1871.
