Founded in 1834 by John W. Williams, Williamstown was the birthplace and home of Civil War Congressional Medal of Honor winner William Haliday Williams of Company C, 82nd Volunteer Infantry, and became a popular stop for travelers and truckers on the historic coast-to-coast Lincoln Highway.
