Gardenview Horticultural Park in Strongsville, Ohio, grew from a private lot into a nonprofit botanical garden and arboretum through the work of horticulturist Henry Ross. Beginning in 1949, he transformed land overrun with blackberry brambles and weeds and opened it to the public in 1961. Ross also introduced dozens of plant cultivars, including Ajuga 'Arctic Fox' and Monarda 'Gardenview Scarlet'. Today the sixteen-acre site includes six acres of English Cottage Gardens and a ten-acre arboretum with about two thousand five hundred unusual trees, including five hundred varieties of flowering crabapples, along with azaleas, begonias, tulips, a cactus collection, and two ponds.
