Turpentine Creek Wildlife Refuge near Eureka Springs, Arkansas, is a 459-acre sanctuary for abused, abandoned, and neglected big cats and other large carnivores. Home to more than 100 animals, it focuses on tigers while also caring for lions, cougars, leopards, bears, and hybrids. Over time, the refuge replaced older small concrete-floored cages in the Compound with larger grassy habitats, and by September 16, 2015, the old enclosures were no longer in use as demolition began. After rescuing 34 big cats from a breeding facility in 2012, it created Rescue Ridge and, with its on-site veterinary hospital and 2014 verified status, strengthened its role as a long-term rescue sanctuary.
