Attala County honored its Confederate soldiers as "the Boys in Grey" and "Our Heroes," naming companies from the county that served in Mississippi infantry, battalion infantry, cavalry, and battalion cavalry units under Captains L.D. Fletcher, T.J. Love, Jno. B. Moore, Henry Jamison, D.T. Patterson, W.V. Davis, Sam Young, Geo. P. Wallace, J.A.P. Campbell, R.B. Campbell, L.S. Terry, David Love, W.D. Sneed, W.E. Meek, and G.P.M. Turner. The tribute, erected by Kosciusko Chapter U.D.C. 634, also invoked remembrance of eighteen sixty-one through eighteen sixty-five, praised the women of the South for giving their loved ones to the cause "to conquer or to die, for truth and right," and declared that though the Confederate ranks were fading and the stars and bars were furled, the South would live forever in their glory.
