Before the building was erected, the vacant lot hosted Fourth of July carnivals with a merry-go-round. When construction was completed in September 1918, the Bank of SSF, the first bank in town, moved from 262 Grand Avenue to its new location and opened with Wm. Coffinberry as president. The upstairs housed Dr. J. C. McGovern's dental office, and City Attorney John Coleberd's law office was also in the building. In 1955, the Bank of SSF moved across the street to 301 Grand Avenue, and Crocker National Bank took over the building. Its clock was removed in the late 1970s.
