Built in 1908 in Madison, Wisconsin, the Eugene A. Gilmore House, long known as the Airplane House, was designed by Frank Lloyd Wright for law professor Eugene Allen Gilmore and his wife, Blanche. Set near Camp Randall in what is now the University Heights Historic District, it is a notable example of Wright’s mature Prairie style, with strong horizontal lines, broad eaves, banded windows, and a low-pitched roof. Its unusual form inspired its nickname, though later changes reduced that effect. Recognized in 1973 on the National Register of Historic Places, it remains one of Madison’s most distinguished Prairie-style residences and an important part of the city’s architectural heritage.
