Built by Baldwin Locomotive Works in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, as construction number 51175 and Baldwin Class 10-32-D number 1167, engine number 400 was completed in January 1919, delivered at Long Leaf in February 1919, placed in service in August 1919, and last used in February 1953. It was the first of four nearly identical locomotives delivered to Crowell and Spencer Lumber, or the Red River and Gulf Railroad, between 1919 and 1923; the others were Crowell and Spencer number 300 and Red River and Gulf numbers 105 and 106. Suited to operations over the Red River and Gulf Railroad, numbers 400 and 300 hauled the daily log trains from Hutton to Long Leaf, while numbers 105 and 106 hauled the regular freight trains between 1919 and 1944. After 1944, engine 400 hauled log trains from east of Meridian to the Long Leaf mill. In poorer condition than number 106, it was last used in February 1953, then retired and stored on this spot at the end of the month. In 1954, parts from engine number 300 were used to rebuild it, but it was never used again in service.
