Site of Donnell & Parsons Building
Industry
Donnell and Parsons built Columbia’s first brick building at this corner in April of 1853 as a general store carrying a wide range of merchandise and provisions. The building survived a big fire in July, 1854, but was badly damaged by a greater fire in 1857. It was again saved in 1861 when fire destroyed many nearby buildings. The structure was torn down in 1866, and the site was mined in 1867.
