William Porcher Dubose, a noted author-theologian, was born at this site on April 11, 1836, educated at Mt. Zion Institute, the Citadel, and the University of Virginia, served as an officer and a chaplain in the Confederate War, was Rector in Winnsboro and Abbeville, became Chaplain and Professor at the University of the South at Sewanee, Tenn., in 1871, and died in 1918.
