Catholic settlers first arrived in this area in the 1800s, and in 1912, five years after the founding of Blessing, a Mass was held in the community. At first, Mass took place in the homes of Blessing residents whenever traveling priests were available. In 1914, the Townsite Company, owned by city founder Jonathan Edwards Pierce, donated land for a church, and Catholic residents completed a building there in 1915 under the patronage of Saint Peter. It began as a mission parish attended occasionally by priests from Victoria, Port Lavaca, and other nearby communities. In 1930, the Rev. A.J. Weber became the first resident priest. The church moved twice during its history. In 1947, members purchased this property and opened a remodeled army chapel here the next year. That structure was later replaced by the current building, dedicated in 1976. Over time, the congregation has helped residents of the Blessing community by providing regular meals to senior citizens, giving food and other donations to people in need, and organizing social events, including an annual fall festival that became a community tradition. Today it continues serving area residents in Blessing.
