Grass Lake Union School was built in 1863-64, with the east addition added in 1867. A 1908 school photograph shows the high school and lower grades on the south side of the building, and the original photo states that Lydia Cooper Shelly is in the photo. The 1959-60 school year was the final time the school was used, and it was torn down in June and July 1960.
