Built in 1909 by the Mount Vernon Bridge Company of Mount Vernon, this Warren Pony Truss Bridge is among the oldest surviving rivet-connected bridges of its type in Ohio and a good example of a form commonly used in the late nineteenth and early twentieth century. It originally stood on Zane’s Trace, an American Indian trail, over Salt Creek on East Wheeling Road about 2 ½ miles from here. In 2000, after it was deemed unable to handle heavy equipment traffic and was soon to be replaced, it was carefully removed for restoration and then set here for preservation. The wood decking was replaced in 2013 using wood donated by Charlie and Gary Neptune and the Hillcrest Lumber Company, David Hershberger, owner.
