George and Hannah Boxley, the first white settlers in Adams Township, built the log cabin that still stands on this property in 1827. Early leaders in the community, the Boxleys used their home as a station on the Underground Railroad prior to the Civil War. Their son Caswell Boxley built an elegant home here in 1878 on what was known as Pioneer Hill, the highest point in Hamilton County.
