Pioneer Edwin Hickman is buried under an ancient poplar four hundred yards southeast. While returning to the Cumberland Settlements from a surveying trip with James Robertson, Robert Weakley, J. Smith, Richard Shaffer, and John Garner, he was killed in an Indian ambush near the site of the grave in April 1791.
