A burial ground identified as a Choctaw burial mound lay 140 yards south of an Indian campground across the highway. It was excavated in June 1934 by the Mississippi Department of Archives and History under Director Dunbar Rowland and archeologist Jordan B. Chambers, and in 1934 it was marked by the Horseshoe Robertson Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, with committee members Beulah Ligon Fuller Harris, Erin Faye Nowlin Clark, and Mattie Waugh Unger; it was built by A.J. Pearson and Sons.
