The Shadow Mountains are a small range in western San Bernardino County in California’s Mojave Desert, near Adelanto and west of the Mojave River. Their highest point, Shadow Mountain, reaches 4,120 feet and is topped by a radio tower, while nearby Silver Peak rises to 4,041 feet. The summits offer wide desert views, including toward Edwards Air Force Base. Part of the southern range lies within the El Mirage Off-Highway Vehicle Area. In a compact area, the mountains contain varied rock formations of different ages, along with recorded fluorite and tungsten, and support desert plants such as winter fat and Fremont’s phacelia.
