This house displays the handsome patterned brickwork typical of eighteenth-century Salem County architecture. Besides serving as a residence, it also housed a temperance hotel and medical offices. John S. Rock, the first African-American attorney admitted to practice law before the U.S. Supreme Court, began his professional studies here prior to 1850.
