Central Nevada Museum in Tonopah, Nevada, was founded in 1981 by the Central Nevada Historical Society, with support from the Fleischmann Foundation, to preserve the records and artifacts of central Nevada. It grew from local efforts to save the history of Tonopah and nearby mining camps in Nye and Esmeralda counties, including places such as Belmont, Gilbert, and Weepah. Although rooted in Tonopah’s early-1900s mining past of silver, gold, and copper, it later expanded to cover other parts of the region’s history, including World War II and the years of Tonopah Army Airfield. Its collections include archives and indoor and outdoor exhibits.
