Mayfield's oldest church, First Presbyterian, was founded about 1832 as Cumberland Presbyterian Church and joined Presbyterian Church USA in 1906. Its members have included Mayfield founder John Anderson and Congressmen Lucian Anderson, who served from 1863 to 1865, William V. Gregory, who served from 1927 to 1936, and Noble J. Gregory, who served from 1937 to 1959.
