After the battle at Minisink Ford, two attempts were recorded in the following weeks to recover the bodies of the fallen, but not until 1822, forty-five years later, were the remains still lying there gathered and prepared for burial. They were interred beneath a small obelisk in Goshen, N.Y. In 1879, the centennial of the battle, a monument was erected at the site of the militia’s last stand.
