Maryland was founded as a Proprietary Colony by Lord Baltimore on March 25, 1634. Religious toleration was established by Act of Assembly in 1649. The Mason-Dixon Line was surveyed from 1763 to 1767. Maryland repudiated the British Stamp Act in 1765, saw the "Peggy Stewart" Tea Party in Annapolis in 1773, and signed the Declaration of Independence on July 3, 1776.
