The First Battle of Saratoga was fought on Freeman's Farm, where the British won. In the battle fought here on September 19, the British built the log-and-earth walls of the massive Light Infantry Redoubt, marked by white posts topped with red. On October 7, during the Second Battle of Saratoga, British forces fell back here, and the Light Infantry Redoubt was strong enough to repel the Americans' assault.
