Christy Woods is a 17-acre arboretum and botanical garden at Ball State University in Muncie, Indiana, devoted to Indiana’s native plants and ecosystems. Part of the land given to the state by the Ball Brothers in 1918, it was shaped early by Dr. O. B. Christy and his biology students, who transplanted wildflowers from around Indiana, and later formalized with trails and garden beds added in 1928. About three-fourths of the site remains mature forest, preserving a native woodland canopy. It also includes Ball State’s four greenhouses, making the area both a botanical collection and an active center for teaching, research, cultivation, and conservation.
