Pulaski County covers 333 square miles. It was formed in 1839 from Wythe and Montgomery and was named for Count Casimir Pulaski, who was killed at the siege of Savannah in 1779. The New River flows through the county. Wythe County covers 479 square miles. It was formed in 1789 from Montgomery and was named for George Wythe, a signer of the Declaration of Independence. The New River flows through the county.
