Walter Claude Ball (1880-1940), son of George W. Ball, followed his father from mining into wealth and other businesses after George had come to Webb City at age 16 with nothing. Walter served on the school board, the board of trustees for the Jane Chinn Hospital, the board for the Presbyterian Church, was a member of the Webb City Rotary Club, and was a charter member of Elks Lodge 861. He and his wife, Ethel Deane, built this home not far from his father's house, and it was the first and only house in Webb City to have an elevator. The home later belonged to Jerry Fisher and his wife Betty, and Jerry gave Webb City many years of service, including as a city councilman.
