Carter Mill was built in 1866, and a U.S. Postoffice was established on Oct. 3, 1867. The settlement was later changed to Carter, Texas. Its pioneers were remembered for their foresight and perseverance, which left a noble heritage and a desire to build for later generations as they had built for those who followed them.
