Bengies Drive-In Theatre in Middle River, Maryland, outside Baltimore, is notable for having the largest remaining drive-in screen in the United States, measuring 52 feet high and 120 feet wide. Opened on June 6, 1956, it was developed by Frog Mortar Corporation and designed by Jack K. Vogel as part of the three-theater Vogel chain. Unusually for a mid-20th-century drive-in that lasted into the 21st century, it has stayed in the Vogel family. Its continued use of double and later weekend triple features helped preserve older drive-in traditions, and during the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020 it gained renewed prominence as a socially distanced entertainment venue.
