Jacob and Josephine Leinenkugel had five children. One died in infancy, and their four surviving children grew up helping at the brewery. Mathias "Matt," born in 1866, attended school until age 16 and began working at the brewery the next year. He started in brewery sales and was later promoted to president in 1907, serving until his death in 1927. Theresa "Rose," born in 1867, and Susan, born in 1870, began working full-time at the brewery after eighth grade. Susan served as president of Leinenkugel's from 1927 to 1929. William, also born in 1870, took an active role at the brewery until he died of tuberculosis at age 27.
