Founded in 1971 by members of the Herreshoff family, the museum grew from a small floating exhibit sparked by the bequest of the yacht THANIA into a major maritime collection. It preserves boats, models, books, and manuscripts tied to John Brown Herreshoff, Nathanael Greene Herreshoff, and yachting history, while also supporting the America’s Cup Hall of Fame, symposia, and sailing education.
