At the Battle of the Blue on October 22, 1864, men of the 2nd Regiment K. S. M. from Shawnee County, commanded by Col. G. W. Veale and attached to the Army of the Frontier, and Capt. Ross Burns's Topeka Battery were among those who fell; those named are Geo. Ginnold, Daniel Handle, C. H. Budd, D. M. Race, McClure Martin, Nicholas Brown, Lear Selkin, Ben. Hughes, H C. Colville, Harvey G. Young, J. B. Alverson, Albert Chipman, Elias Roberts, Rob't McKnown, Dennis Ray, Moses Banks, David Rake, James Eagle, Rob't Campbell, W. P. Roberts, Samuel Allen, William Wann, Rob't Boles, and David Fults.
