For many years, a large garage and service station stood at this location, owned by Howard “Pappy” Litch, an avid Galena historian who spent much of his life promoting his hometown and saving its history. To honor his lifetime of dedication to his hometown, the city built this park on the exact site where his garage once stood. It serves both as a place to remember “Pappy” and as a gathering place for the community and for the many travelers of Route 66.
