Amory's tribute to the heroes of 1861—1865 honored members of Stonewall Camp #427 in Amory, Monroe County, Mississippi, and captains from Monroe County who served from 1861-1865, including those from Rogers Company E, 14th Mississippi Infantry. It also paid tribute to the women of the Confederacy, whose pious ministrations to wounded soldiers soothed the last hours of those who died far from the objects of their tenderest love, whose domestic labors helped supply the wants of defenders in the field, whose zealous faith in the cause shone as a guiding star undimmed by the darkest clouds of war, whose fortitude sustained them under every privation, whose annual tribute expressed enduring grief, love, and reverence for the sacred dead, and whose patriotism would teach their children to emulate the deeds of their revolutionary sires, in words attributed to Jefferson Davis.
