Joseph Brown was the most famous minister. An early pioneer, Indian fighter, and minister, he was captured by Indians near what is now Chattanooga when he was a young man and was held captive for over a year before escaping. He was ordained as a minister in the Cumberland Presbyterian Church in 1832 at the age of 60. He died on February 4, 1868 in Giles County. Keith Johnson was also a minister.
