Welcome to Occoquan Bay National Wildlife Refuge
Nature
1
In 1994, the U.S. Army base on this tract of land, known as the Woodbridge Research Facility, closed, and the site was combined with the existing Marumsco Creek National Wildlife Refuge. Today, the refuge's upland meadows and vast tidal marshes attract migratory songbirds, raptors, and waterfowl, while bird watchers from around the region, along with photographers and families, enjoy its abundant and easily viewed wildlife and walk the old Army service roads that wind through the grasslands and along the shoreline of the Occoquan River.
