From 1825 to 1863, the Weigh-Mart site was Plane No. 7 on the original gravity line and became Plane No. 12 and 18 after 1844 renovations. Coal was stockpiled here during winter months, then weighed and transported to the canal after the thaw. Passenger service began in 1877, and the depot remained operational until 1899. In 1900, the depot and site were purchased by Waymart Boro for use as town hall. In 1978, the D&H Canal Company Gravity Railroad Depot was placed on the National Registry of Historical Places by the United States Department of the Interior.
