Steven Jay Robin made Gulfport his adopted home and loved the little city by the bay. After graduating from H.B. Plant High School, he joined the Navy and was assigned to the USS Pueblo in 1967. On 23 January 1968, he was wounded and taken prisoner with 82 surviving crew members when the Pueblo was attacked and seized by the North Korean Navy, and the crew spent almost a year in a North Korean prison. After the Navy, he graduated from the University of Maryland and then worked for the Department of the Army. Following his retirement, he moved to Gulfport, where he continued serving his community by volunteering to assist troubled youths before the Pinellas County courts as an appointed Guardian Ad Litem. Although disabled and sometimes in poor health, he also fished, enjoyed his breakfast buddies, and spent time with his energetic black Lab.
