This building was Canadian's first hospital, opening on June 16, 1917, with construction funded by public subscription. Its first owner, Dr. H. C. Caylor, sold it to Dr. L. V. Dawson in 1920, and from 1924 to 1949 Dr. E. H. Morris owned it. A tornado on April 9, 1947, that killed or injured some 200 to 260 people in the Glazier-Higgins area, 10 to 27 miles northeast, underscored the value of this hospital as the only one in the immediate vicinity. It closed in 1949.
