On July 11, 1996, the Olympic Torch paused at this site on its way to the 1996 Centennial Olympic Games in Atlanta, Georgia, and the occasion honored the commitment of the volunteers of Focus on the Flame Tifton 1996 and the Tifton torchbearers Thad Brewer, Luz Marti, Nancy Mark, Clinton Range, Ryan Vicars, and Justin Womak.
