Sherman's Left Wing
Military
4
On Nov. 27, 1864, the Left Wing of Gen. Sherman’s army, consisting of the 14th and 20th Corps, moved from Sandersville toward Louisville. Ward’s division of the 20th Corps and Carlin’s division of the 14th Corps, with the artillery and trains of both corps, moved to Davisboro and encamped. Morgan’s and Baird’s divisions of the 14th Corps crossed the Ogeechee River at Fenn’s Bridge, four miles north, and turned toward Louisville. Jackson’s and Geary’s divisions of the 20th Corps destroyed the Central Railroad from Tennille to Davisboro and halted here for the night. That night, headquarters for the Left Wing under Slocum, the 14th Corps under Davis, and the 20th Corps under Williams were established in Davisboro.
