Brigham Young and his company of Mormon pioneers camped about 1,000 feet west of this point on May 24, 1847, while traveling from Nauvoo, Illinois, and Winter Quarters, Nebraska, to the Valley of the Great Salt Lake, which they reached on July 24, 1847. The Mormon Trail was on the north side of the river, and the Oregon Trail on the south side.
