Originally built in the early 1900's, this bridge was wide enough for horse-drawn carts and eventually small motorized vehicles. When it was built, the west side was at ground level, and the steps were added much later. In 1936, when a large portion of Tyrone was under water, the bridge was destroyed. The present bridge was built and opened in 1937 strictly as a pedestrian bridge so people could easily get to the train station and to the Wilson Chemical Company.
