Haynie Chapel Methodist Church was founded in 1839 in the Republic of Texas by Rev. John Haynie (1789-1860). Its first church was built of logs and stood a mile north on the land of Andrew Deavers Houston. The present building, the third, was erected in 1907. A plaque was erected by Houston descendants, Mr. and Mrs. E.W. (Nellie Houston) Schuhmann. Its history was given by Rev. Olin W. Nail, present pastor.
