Discovered by the Dutch and settled by the Swedes, Delaware County was granted to William Penn by King Charles II of England and became the site of Penn's first landing in Pennsylvania. Here the first assembly met and adopted the frame of government honored in history. Delaware County was also the site of Pennsylvania's first Supreme Court and its first capital.
