Oakhurst Golf Club was the site of the first organized golf club in the United States. It was formed in 1884 on the Oakhurst estate of owner Russell W. Montague by a New Englander and Scotchmen George Grant, Alexander M. McLeod, Roderick McLeod, and Lionel Torrin.
