Potlatch State Park is a 57-acre park on Hood Canal near the town of Potlatch, with a sheltered shoreline used for camping and day recreation, including hiking, boating, fishing, shellfish harvesting, beachcombing, and sailboarding. Opened in 1960 on land traditionally part of the Skokomish people’s territory, it later became involved in Skokomish land claims, giving it significance beyond recreation. The name “Potlatch” also connects the site to a broader Indigenous tradition of gift-giving feasts and ceremonies practiced by peoples of the Pacific Northwest Coast in Canada and the United States.
