The City of Appleton built this bridge as a lasting monument to the memory of the soldiers and sailors of the Civil, Spanish-American and World Wars. The original Memorial Drive Bridge was dedicated in 1924, and in 1982 this monument was intended to serve as a continuing remembrance.
