Indian Hill was originally known as “The Heights,” at 51 feet the highest elevation in southwest Florida. It was the site of The Heights Hotel in 1908 and the home of J.M. and Tommy Barfield. Mrs. Barfield played a very important role in the development of Caxambas, Marco Island, and Collier County. The Caxambas School, an early school, stood here from 1890 to 1928.
