Philomathean Clubhouse
History
3
On Nov. 17, 1893, six local women formed a private club they named “Philomathean,” meaning “Lover of Learning.” By 1910, the members undertook to build a meeting place of their own. Local architect W.E. Wood donated the rustic Craftsman Style design with decorative stained glass. Finished in 1912, the building hosted its first meeting on February 12.
